Learn hammer control, hardening and tempering, and rivet making. You will forge a pair of pick up tongs and all the tooling necessary to punch, drift, rivet, and assemble them. Projects will include a top rivet set, bottom rivet stake, center punch, scribe, round punch, and a punch plate or bolster.

Forge welding or Fire Welding is a technique for joining two pieces of iron or steel by heating them in a forge and then fusing them together with hammer blows.

Brian Brazeal, of California, will be teaching a class in making hammer heads from 4140. The students will be working in pairs, striking for each other. This class is intended for intermediate level blacksmiths. The student should be familiar with working in a coal forge, have good hammer skills and should be prepared to swing an 8 pound sledge hammer while striking.
